Solar Panels

Solar panels

Solar panels, or ‘Solar PV’: These are panels that harness the power of the sun by converting it into energy to use in your home.

We can order a range of products, depending on the size of your roof or alternative unshaded space.

It is a good idea to have a set of panels linked to a battery, so that energy generated whilst you are out in the day can be stored and used at night, or sent back to the National grid to reduce your bills.

FAQs

Q: How do I claim back money from the National Grid?

A: When we install your system, we will send details of your installation and your MPAN number to the National Grid. They will generate a new MPAN number to share with your energy company so that you can start using a flexible tariff. This enables you to use energy generated in the day during the night, when energy is cheaper on some tariffs. We can help you to choose an energy company and tariff that is right for you.

Q: What does Solar PV stand for?

A:  It’s an acronym for Solar photo-voltaic panels. These panels contain photo-voltaic cells, which convert sunlight into electricity.

Q: What is the difference between solar panels, solar PV panels and solar thermal panels?

A: Solar panels and solar PV are the same thing. Solar thermal panels involve the sun’s heat warming up the fluid they contain, which then heats up water in your household system. We recommend Solar panels to our customers as the enerrgy can be used in many ways rather than just to heat up water. Many customers are currently requesting  to replace solar thermal panels with solar PV to gain this flexibility.

Q: Does it matter where solar panels go?

A:  Yes! Solar PV panels are most effective when mounted on a South facing surface at an angle between 30 and 45 degrees. They can also be ground mounted. However, these angles do not need to be exact. Our qualified engineers will advise you as to how much energy you can make using the area you have available.

Q: Do I need to clean my solar panels?

A:  Shading can affect the ability of your panels to convert sunlight to electricity, so a service every couple of years can be a good idea. Solar Panel Cleaning Ltd are a local company you might wish to employ.
